FPH Campers Gear Up For Camp Erin DFW 2023

In just two weeks, 25 special families will head to Camp Buckner in the Hill Country town of Burnet, Texas for Camp Erin® DFW 2023! These families (including 41 children), eight Faith Presbyterian Hospice (FPH) teammates and 17 volunteers will enjoy a magical experience together June 2-4, 2023. The weekend will be filled with traditional camping activities, while also participating in therapeutic group sessions, where families can share their grief and participate in healing experiences after suffering the loss of a loved one.

To help build a sense of community prior to bunking up at camp, FPH hosted an in-person “Save Your Spot” event the evening of May 18. At this event the families met each other, the camp staff and volunteers and had an opportunity to ask questions about what to expect at camp.

Prior to this event, FPH’s Child Life Specialists worked with the Dallas Chapter of Project Linus to provide specific information about each camper so they could create personalized blankets for them. These customized blankets included nods to each child’s favorite things and their special relationship to the loved one they lost.

FPH, the Forefront Living Foundation (FLF) and teammates are grateful to partner with Eluna and New York Life (NYL) again this year to make Camp Erin® DFW possible. Eluna is the founding organization for Camp Erin®, the largest national bereavement program for children and teens ages 6-17 who have experienced the death of someone close to them. This camp is offered at no cost to families and is led by bereavement professionals and caring volunteers.

New York Life (NYL), a major Camp Erin® DFW corporate sponsor, is fully committed to providing those grieving with the tools necessary to cope, and has been instrumental in supporting our camp. Above and beyond the money they provide to fund the camp, they supplied an additional $500 Grant through their Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Mini-Grant Initiative to furnish gift cards for gas for all 25 families. NYL will also generously supply goody bags and drinks for these families to enjoy at camp again this year.

On top of that, NYL encourages their agents to get involved with the programs they support and Yuka Nakahara-Goven, a NYL Agent, was awarded $500 from The Million Dollar Round Table Foundation (MDRT), a foundation that gives to charitable organizations worldwide. She graciously donated the MDRT funds to benefit the families at Camp Erin® DFW.

FPH and FLF would like to thank all the contributors and volunteers on behalf of the families they are impacting through their gifts and service.
