Few things match the feeling of knowing that you’ve truly made a difference for someone. Faith Presbyterian Hospice relies on the talents and dedication of volunteers to provide and enhance our unique services and programs, and to make a difference in the lives of others.
In home/group home/assisted living facility
A Patient Companion Volunteer offers socialization and companionship to a FPH patient. Time required is 30 minutes to an hour per visit. Visits are scheduled as needed.
A Veteran volunteer will visit a Veteran FPH patient, offering unique socialization and companionship. Typical length of visit is 30 minutes to an hour per week.
In home/assisted living facility
A Caregiver Relief Volunteer sits with the patient while their primary caregiver attends to errands, appointments, or self-care. Time required is 1 to 2 hours and is scheduled specifically with the caregiver as needed.
AAT Volunteers share their four-legged friends with patients who enjoy the companionship of an animal. These four-legged volunteers must be certified through an animal certification program such as Pet Partners, Therapy Dogs International or another animal certification program. Time required is 30 minutes to an hour per visit. Visits are scheduled as needed.
Memory Bears:
Sew teddy bears using cloth from garments provided by the family.
Legacy Building Life Review:
Interview, film, and edit a life review DVD for the patient as a lasting legacy for the family.
Concierge volunteers walk the “Comfort Cart” around the Inpatient Care Center visiting patients and families. The Comfort Cart includes snacks, playing cards, coloring books, phone chargers, etc. Time required is 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on patient census.
Faith Kids Volunteers assist our Child Life Specialist with group activities and help provide support to children/teens/young adults and/or their caregivers who are grieving the death of a loved one. Faith Kids provides a safe, caring and sharing environment where grieving children can express themselves through words, art, drama, writing or physical play. Time required is the 2nd Thursday of each month, September – May, 6pm-9:00pm.
Tuck–In Volunteers make phone calls to our at-home patients to identify needs and make sure they have everything they need going into the weekend. These calls can be made from the volunteers’ home or from our administrative offices. Tuck-In Calls are made on Thursday. Typical time required is 1-2 hours, depending on patient census.
Volunteers offer gentle, understanding support to those navigating the challenges of caregiving. With open hearts and listening ears, they bring comfort, hope, and encouragement through friendly phone calls or in-person visits. The time commitment is flexible, and calls can be made from the comfort of your home. For more information, call 214-355-9064.
T Boone Pickens/Harold Simmons Inpatient Center
A Patient Companion Volunteer offers socialization and companionship to a FPH patient and/or family member. Volunteers “round” on the patients and typically commit to a specific day each week. Time required depends on patient census.
In home/assisted living facility/Simmons Inpatient Unit
11th Hour Volunteers provide a caring presence for patients who are imminent, including emotional support, spiritual support, and comfort measures. They also provide support for loved ones of patients that are imminent or in crisis. Time required is a minimum 4-hour shift, weekdays or evenings, 8am-8pm. These volunteers are scheduled as needed and often with little notice. Volunteers for the 11th Hour program must have been a hospice volunteer for at least 6 months and are required to complete an additional volunteer training.
Simmons Inpatient Unit
AAT Volunteers share their four-legged friends with patients who enjoy the companionship of an animal. These four-legged volunteers must be certified through an animal certification program such as Pet Partners or Therapy Dogs International or other animal certification program. Volunteers “round” on the patients, spending 15 to 20 minutes with each patient interested in a Faithful Paws visit. Time required depends on patient census.
Receptions volunteers greet visitors to the inpatient unit while creating a warm and inviting environment. Volunteer duties also include escorting guests and administrative tasks. Typical shifts are 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Shifts are available seven days a week.
Volunteers serve as greeters and door holders at the memorial services held in our Simmons Spiritual Care Center. These services are scheduled as needed and are typically held on Saturdays or Sundays. If a volunteer is comfortable with audio/visual equipment, they can also be trained to help run the music and slide show during the service. Required time is 2-3 hours per service, volunteers are scheduled as needed.
Bereavement Volunteers assist the Bereavement Department by making bereavement calls and sending bereavement letters to our grieving families. They also assist with bereavement support groups and special events such as the Spring and Winter Memorials.
Administrative Volunteers assist our administrative office staff with copying, filing, making binders, etc. Time required is flexible.
