A Heartwarming Celebration of Love and Faith: A Faithful Wish Comes True at Faith Presbyterian Hospice

In a quiet corner of the T. Boone Pickens Hospice Center (TBPHC), a heartwarming and unforgettable celebration took place on Saturday, September 16, 2023. It was the 39th wedding anniversary of Peggy and Robert Darmousseh, a devoted couple who has faced life’s challenges hand in hand. Despite the constraints of illness, their enduring love and faith inspired them to make a “Faithful Wish” – one that the team at Faith Presbyterian Hospice (FPH) was all too happy to grant, by helping bring friends, family and a touch of gourmet delight to their special day.

Robert, who was a manufacturing company employee and championship winning soccer coach and Peggy, a former part-time real estate agent and full-time homeschooling mom, have always been inseparable. They’ve weathered the storms of life, raising two sons, Mike and Sean, as well as hosting two Japanese foreign exchange students and navigating the highs and lows of a long and happy marriage. When Robert’s health took an unexpected turn, the couple found solace and care through FPH at the TPBHC, a place that provides not just medical support but also a sense of community and compassion.

With their 39th wedding anniversary approaching, Robert expressed his desire for a memorable celebration, an event that would not only mark the enduring love he and Peggy share but also allow them to reconnect with friends and family who have been a part of their journey. The couple’s wish was to share a catered meal from Shahrzad Mediterranean Market and Grill in Richardson, known for its exquisite Persian cuisine.

The hospice staff at FPH, applied their unwavering dedication to providing holistic care, and took on the task of making this “Faithful Wish” a reality. They reached out to Shahrzad Mediterranean Market and Grill to provide a comforting meal as Robert is originally from Iran and moved to the United States in 1979. The team also networked through community Facebook Groups for assistance in creating the memorable celebration, tapping volunteers Lara Cupit who provided the flower arrangements and Denise Wilson who donated the beautiful cake.

On the evening of September 16, 2023, the Mabee Café in the TBPHC was transformed into a haven of love and joy. The team decorated the room in their wedding colors – white, silver and shades of pink with flowers, candles and photographs capturing the Darmousseh’s decades of happiness that began when they were high school sweethearts. As the Darmoussehs held hands and exchanged loving glances, 20 of their closest friends and family, including their six grandchildren, gathered around, sharing stories of cherished memories and their admiration for this remarkable couple. Guests enjoyed a sumptuous feast, savoring each bite as they toasted to love, resilience and the power of faith.

The highlight of the evening was a heartfelt speech by Peggy, who spoke of her love for Robert and her gratitude for the opportunity to celebrate their enduring bond. Her words resonated deeply with everyone present, serving as a reminder of the profound impact love can have, even in the face of adversity.

As the evening drew to a close, the Darmousseh’s exchanged a tender kiss, reaffirming their commitment to each other. The celebration had not only granted their “Faithful Wish” but also allowed their loved ones to witness the beauty of a love that endures through all of life’s trials.

In a world often filled with challenges, the Darmousseh’s story serves as a reminder that even in the midst of adversity, love and community can create moments of unparalleled joy and warmth, leaving a lasting legacy that transcends time. Click here to learn more about FPH’s “Faithful Wish” program.
