Midwestern University Appoints FPH Chief Medical Officer to Board of Trustees

Kathleen H. Goeppinger, Ph.D., President and Chief Executive Officer of Midwestern University, is pleased to announce that Michael M. Bond, D.O. (CCOM 1997), and Nicholas C. Zagotta, J.D., have been appointed to the University’s Board of Trustees. As the governing body of the University, the Board of Trustees works closely with the University’s Leadership Team to chart the future of Midwestern University, while upholding its values and mission to educate the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Michael M. Bond, D.O., graduated from Midwestern University’s Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine (CCOM) in 1997 and is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine, the American Board of Osteopathic Family Physicians, and the Board of Certification in Emergency Medicine by the American Board of Physician Specialists. In November 2017, Dr. Bond joined Faith Presbyterian Hospice in Dallas, Texas as a medical director and a year later was appointed as Chief Medical Officer. He currently provides daily oversight for all medical operations which includes a 36-bed inpatient unit for severely ill hospice patients. Dr. Bond has authored medical articles on a variety of topics in peer-reviewed journals and has been a featured speaker at numerous conferences.

During his seven years of service in the United States Navy, Dr. Bond was appointed as the Medical Director for Executive Health Care at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. He also served as an Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences from 2000- 2004. In addition to his military decorations and other civilian recognitions, he is a life member of the National Eagle Scout Association.

Nicholas C. Zagotta, J.D., is an accomplished attorney, counselor, and successful business owner. He is a graduate of the John Marshall Law School and owner of the Law Offices of Nicholas C. Zagotta in Chicago. Mr. Zagotta, Esq., has served the community as a member of several boards including the ICC Group, the WGA/Evans Scholarship Foundation, the John Marshall Law School Chicago, the John Marshall Law School Foundation, the CTA Board of Directors, the Cancer Support Center in Homewood, IL, and others.

In addition, Mr. Zagotta has been a successful commodities trader on the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) and was elected by the CBOT membership to the Board and served as the CBOT Board of Directors liaison to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the agency responsible for the regulation of the commodities markets in the United States. He has spent more than 40 years building strategic relationships with private equity and venture capitalists, attorneys, educators, and professional sports figures to create broad and deep networks capable of significant endeavors.

As members of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Bond and Mr. Zagotta will help advance Midwestern University’s mission to maintain the highest standards of academic excellence and will participate in the governance of the private, not-for-profit graduate and postgraduate educational institution offering degrees in the health sciences.
